Julie brings a passion for social justice and a background in psychology and the study of human nature to the project. Her academic research has used qualitative interviewing as a tool to explore power in the context of gender relations. During her years in public health, Julie was highly involved in the pursuit of health equity, often examining the role of social determinants of health and the uneven distribution of resources on health outcomes. As a consultant, she has focussed on the non-profit sector working with many vulnerable and often stigmatized groups and the organizations that represent them, including families in low income, individuals struggling with housing and homelessness, LGBTQ2 community members, Indigenous peoples and New Canadians. Her background in Clinical Psychology combined with her knowledge of group processes gives her a unique perspective on communication and consensus building between diverse groups. Her teaching experience includes courses on stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination, as well as gender studies.
